Regional Head Start & Early Head Start
In 1987, E Center was awarded federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services to provide Head Start services in Yuba and Sutter counties. Early Head Start services were begun in 1998. In 2007, E Center was awarded federal funds to provide services in Butte County. Regional Head Start (RHS) is currently funded to provide services to children 0-5 years of age and to pregnant women in their third trimester.
To fulfill the Regional Head Start mission, services are provided to promote child development in the areas of physical, emotional, dental, and nutritional health and in the development of cognitive and social skills. Parents, as the first and most important teachers of their children, are encouraged to actively participate in Head Start activities.
Center-Part Day:
Children enrolled in the center base option attend class four or five days a week for a morning or afternoon session. Children participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor learning activities.
Center-Full Day:
Children enrolled in the full day option attend class up to five days a week for 6 or more hours a day depending on the needs of the family. This option primarily assists parents in meeting their childcare needs while working or in training.
Home Base:
A family educator visits each family once a week for 1 1/2 hours. The parent is the primary focus of the home base and works directly with the child. Parents and preschool age children attend socializations every other week for 3 1/2 hours with other Head Start families. Socialization experiences for enrolled infants, toddlers, and pregnant women are scheduled weekly for 2 hours with other head Start families.
Combination:
This option combines center base and home base. Children attend class two or three days a week and a home visit is made every other week or once a month.
